BIRDING at MHP

Located in the Mississippi Flyway near the confluence of the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers, the McCully Heritage Project is an ideal place for birdwatching.

Click here for a summary list of birds seen at MHP (pdf file).

The MHP hosts bird walks throughout the year, check the calendar of events or sign-up to be notified of event dates. The MHP is a member of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology and encourages participation in the lab's Citizen Science programs, such as the Great Backyard Bird Count and Project Feeder Watch.

The MHP participates each year in the Great Backyard Bird Count, encouraging area residents to count the birds at their feeders over the President's day weekend. For more information and data from the Great Backyard Bird Count, visit www.birdsource.org/gbbc. This year we hosted two winter bird walks, resulting in the addition of 4 new bird species to our summary list.

BIRDING TRAIL: MHP is currently setting up a trail specifically for birding. We will post maps and features of the Birding Trail when it is completed. Please check back or contact the MHP for more information. If you are interested in volunteering or making a donation to this endeavor, contact the MHP director.
